i see these permaculture teachers working very hard to spread the basic, even simplistic knowledge of how to water plants.. and the same principles about companion planting, swales, mulching, multi-story plantings ,compost, etc. .. i've learnt these terms and concepts just by talking to people and thinking about it... i am finally doing a PDC in October mostly to open a closer conversation with the permaculture teachers and get more involved in the community... but as for starting a new revolution for humanity, the fundamental issue is getting people on the land.. providing a legal and social arrangement where people can have a piece of land for their very own selves, with the knowledge and confidence that they'll conceive, raise and live with their children and family for generations in the future. that's what gives the motivation to make a piece of land beautiful.
there are so many ecovillages and permaculture communities that falter and splinter.. the true permanent culture hasn't really appeared yet. eating flesh is part of the problem, because it reduces the efficiency and nutritional benefit of animal products like eggs, milk, hair and wool, as well as the closeness of communication, training and assistance that animals can provide. also i'm wondering if we can focus a little less on teaching.. fast-track that whole learning process, and use a little more energy addressing the current challenge... access to a piece of earth to practice and innovate even newer, more concise, more globally relevant, more powerful, effective, easy and fun ways of becoming self-sufficient, organising our settlements, festivals, celebrations, and creating a planetary network of villages to nurture and maintain a peaceful, abundant and prosperous way of life for every person.. without fear of politics or big business, rather a cheerful attitude of collaboration with any fellow human who is engaged, intelligent and caring enough to think about the future of humanity and the planet.
i love these guys' passion and the international concept of permaculture.. now maybe we think a bit smarter about how to make it more and more mainstream normal, engaging with the vast masses of people in urban life, especially the people who are actively looking for a way to get involved, but are trapped in an anti-rational system of consumption and employment.. the expectatoin that we work our whole lives just to pay for the land.. how can we do permaculture if the focys is to earn money? that just ends up accumulating in the bank accounts of super wealthy people who dont even know what to do with it... no, we want to use our energy on the plants, the soil, producing quality fruits and berries for our fellows and neighbours, to bring an end to all disease, understand herbal medicines, discover and preserve all the wonderful and rare species that we have forgotten or not discovered yet... the time is right for it.. we have the freedom and the ability.. so let's get these village settlements going.
